Overview:
I have chosen to do my unit plan on the Cold War. I chose it because it is one of the most interesting times in our nations history. It involves some of the greatest and most well known political leaders of the age including Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Nikita Khrushchev and Joseph Stalin. This era also incorporates the rise and fight of world Communism vs. Democracy. It was a political war between two of the most powerful countries on earth with the most powerful leaders in the United States and the Soviet Union. I thought it was important to cover the main topics and events involving this period of the Cold War since there isn't much time to go into too much depth. These major topics and events are Communism vs. Democracy, the political leaders, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Bay of Pigs Invasion, and the Red Scare. The opening lesson (Direct Instruction) will be an overall presentation of the Cold War so the students will have a basic understanding. The next three lesson (Cooperative Learning, Concept, and Cause & Effect) will each go into more detail on specific topics or events. The final lesson (Inquiry) will be a review game that will go over all of the topics covered in the unit.
Timeline:
Monday: Direct Instruction Lesson
Tuesday: Cooperative Learning Lesson
Wednesday: Concept Lesson
Thursday: Cause and Effect Model Lesson
Friday: Inquiry Lesson
